Once again several hundred people supported the annual Ian Hutchinson Memorial Race Day. It was however, even more poignant this year as it has now - through an unexpected and tragic event - become known as the “Ossie & Hutch Memorial Race day”.
There was, as usual a champagne reception for the guests, followed by lunch and a charity auction which raised in excess of £6000 for the two chosen charities - The Limbless Association Football + in association with Chelsea Football club, also The Rainbow Centre which helps children affected by cerebral palsy.
The highlight of the afternoon was the “Ossie & Hutch Memorial Race” the winner of which received a specially engraved silver memorial race day cup. This was presented by Lynn Osgood and Elaine Hutchinson.
Among those present were ex Chelsea stars Tommy Baldwin and David Webb. Also present was new Southampton vice chairman Leon Crouch who generously supported the auction, successfully bidding for two items, a Brazil shirt signed by the legendary Pele and 1977 Eric Clapton tour jacket for his daughter!
Mr Crouch said he was proud to be able attend and support the event particularly as he was due to meet Ossie only a few days after he died. Also in attendance was Ossie’s longstanding friend Denis Bundy and also Geoff Leighson who created and maintains The Official Peter Osgood Website.
